A former tax authority employee has been sentenced to 27 months in prison and fined 70,000 shekels ($17,800 US) for giving out hundreds of fake pay stubs to help people defraud Bituah Leumi (National Insurance).

The defendant agreed to a plea bargain in which he admitted to giving out false accounts, not submitted annual reports to the tax authorities, and other crimes.

The judge stated that "the damage to social values is worse [than the economic damage]."
