Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has announced that he will step down, after a club fire killed 32 people and injured almost 200. During his televised resignation speech, he said that top officials must take responsibility for the tragic occurrence at the Bucharest nightclub.

Ponta has served as prime minister since 2012 and has been accused of committing fraud, not paying taxes, and laundering money, AFP reports.

"I am stepping down as prime minister," he said. "I hope the government's resignation will satisfy the people who came out in the streets."
