Australia has announced that it will dispense with appointing knights and dames, calling the titles "not appropriate" anymore.
The institution was only revived last year, by then-prime minister Tony Abbott. The new prime minister, Malcom Turnbull, has been expected to reverse the decision since he came to power in September.
"The cabinet recently considered the Order of Australia... and agreed that knights and dames are not appropriate in our modern honours system," said Prime Minister Turnbull, noting that existing knights and dames will not be affected.
