The polling stations in Poland are closing and it appears that the conservative Law and Just Party will win the general election. Outgoing Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz has already admitted defeat.

The Law and Justice Party previously headed the opposition but they are poised to receive 39 percent of the vote, which would give them enough seats to govern alone. If so, it would be the first time a single party received enough seats since Poland returned to being a democracy in 1989.

The party's head, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, is an outspoken skeptic of the European Union, and largely opposed to taking in refugees.
