Egypt, Japan, Senegal, Ukraine, and Uruguay were elected yesterday (Thursday) to two-year terms on the United Nations Security Council. They will all begin their tenure on January 2016.
The new members will replace Chad, Chile, Jordan, Lithuania, and Nigeria.
The Security Council contains 15 members at all times, including the five permanent members: the US, UK, France, Russia, and China.
