The Peruvian military has come under scrutiny, both domestically and internationally, over its failure to stem the trafficking of cocaine. The South American country is now the largest producer of cocaine in the world, exporting over a ton of the drug per day.
Most of the drugs are grown in the remote jungles, which are supposed to be under military control. Critics accuse the military of ignoring the problem.
