Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad told an Iranian television station that only Syrians can decide what should happen in the country. "Discussion about the political system or officials in Syria is an internal Syrian affair," he said.
The international community has become more active in Syria recently. The United States and the UK have carried out airstrikes against ISIS targets, and Russia has begun its own attacks against Assad's enemies.
Most Western countries demand that Assad step down, while Russia and Iran insist that he continue serving as the president.
