Former Minister Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union) has commented on Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas's conduct at the United Nations.

"The speeches, the accusations, and the flags will not bring about a Palestinian state - only direct negotiations with Israel will do so," she said. "It is time for the Palestinian leaders to understand that a Palestinian state can only be created through an agreement, and as long as Israel's security and interests are ensured. The attempt to make the international community force Israel to make sacrifices which would harm Israel's interests will not succeed and is doomed to failure."

Livni added, "When the situation on the Temple Mount is so explosive, every leader has the responsibility to be careful with their words and not to encourage radical Islam, which is trying to turn the conflict into a religious and violent one. Even if we have disagreements within Israel over the correct path, we cannot allow IDF soldiers and security forces to be harmed or discredited in their fight against terror and the Price Tag movement, which the Israeli public rejects."
