Pope Francis says that he recently met with a number of people who had been sexually abused by members of the clergy, and promised them that "all responsible will be held accountable."
The Pope spoke of the meeting earlier today (Sunday), on the last day of his US trip. He added that the victims "have become true heralds of mercy. Humbly, we owe each of them our gratitude for their value as they have had to suffer terrible abuse.”
He has previously been criticized for appearing to be more worried about the abuse scandal's impact on the clergy than on assisting the victims.
