A court in the US state of Oklahoma has halted an execution, only hours before it was scheduled to take place, Associated Press reports.
Richard Glossip was convicted of ordered someone killed, while his coworkers was convicted of carrying out the murder. Glossip was to be executed by lethal injection today (Wednesday) at 3:00 pm but his lawyers submitted an appeal, claiming that they have new evidence pointing to their client's innocence.
Glossip would have been the first person convicted in Oklahoma since the US Supreme Court upheld the state's formula for lethal injections this past June.
