A Massachusetts teenager is being charged with involuntary manslaughter for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide.

Prosecutors claim that Michelle Carter told her Conrad Roy III that he should kill himself numerous time through text messages. Carter's lawyer does not dispute the messages, but says she tried to prevent him from doing so at first, and only encouraged him after she became convinced that he was not going to change his mind.

Carter's texts included messages such as: "There is no way you can fail. Tonight is the night. It's now or never," "You're finally going to be happy in heaven. No more pain. No more bad thoughts and worries. You'll be free," "When are you gonna do it? Stop ignoring the question," and ""You can't keep living this way. You just need to do it like you did the last time and not think about it and just do it, babe."
