Over a thousand Muslim religious leaders in India have come together to denounce ISIS as "un-Islamic."

Mohammed Manzar Hasan Ashrafi Misbahi, a prominent cleric from Mumbai, issued a fatwa [religious ruling] in which he said that ISIS's actions are in direct opposition to Islam's instructions. "Islam does not allow the killing of even an animal. What the Islamic State is doing is damaging to Islam," he told Associated Press.

The fatwa's supporters include heads of mosques, religious schools, and organizations across the country, which is home to the third-largest Muslim population in the world.
