Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader in Myanmar, is requesting that the international community pay close attention to the country's upcoming general elections.

"For the first time in decades, our people will have a real chance of bringing about real change. This is a chance that we cannot afford to let slip," she stated in a message on Facebook. "A smooth and tranquil transition is almost more important than a free and fair election."

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party is expected to win the November 8 elections.
