An Egyptian court has published its ruling on three English-language al-Jazeera journalists who were sentenced to three years in prison. The defendants had been convicted of spreading "false news," and their case drew attention from advocates for a free press around the world.
According to official state news, the three men were supporting the Muslim Brotherhood with biased reports. Furthermore, the court ruled that they had worked without proper press credentials and worked at a Cairo hotel without permission.
Two of the journalists, Mohammed Fahmy and Baher Mohammed, are in prison. The third, Peter Greste, was deported. All deny the charges.
