At least 12 Syrian refugees, including five children, drowned while trying to reach Greece today (Wednesday). Turkey says that their two boats sank while in Turkish waters.
Another 15 people were rescued by the Turkish coast guard. Another three are reported missing.
According to Ankara, Turkey rescued more than 42,000 migrants from the sea between January and May. Last week alone, they rescued another 2,160.
