A law professor at West Point has resigned after he published an article encouraging attacks on other law professors and "Islamic holy sites."

William Bradford was hired by West Point, the US army's combined university and officer training school, last month. He only gave five lectures before stepping down.

Bradford recently published an article in which he claimed that "about 40" law professors are actively working with Islamic organizations. He encouraged the government to set up "a renewed version of the House Un-American Activities Committee" and treat them as enemy combatants.

He further claimed that the West is in a state of "total war" against terrorists, and should therefore target "Islamic holy sites" in order to establish deterrence.

Bradford has long been accused of lying about his academic and military records.
