The Obama administration is considering whether to sanction Chinese companies and individuals in the wake of the recent hacking scandal, the Washington Post reports.
The newspaper quoted anonymous officials in the administration, who said that a final decision could come as soon as within the next two weeks.
Authorities believe that Chinese hackers were responsible for hacking a government agency and stealing information on more than 4 million current and former government employees.
The issue is particularly pressing because Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the US for the first time next month.
