The Egyptian foreign ministry summoned the UK ambassador in order to criticism his "unacceptable interference" in the Egyptian court system.
Ambassador John Casson had noted that he was "shocked and concerned" after three journalists were sentenced to several years in prison for "spreading false news" yesterday (Saturday). Casson added that the ruling would "undermine confidence in Egypt's stability."
Two of the defendants were British citizens.
