Officials in Likud reacted strongly to recordings released on Monday, in which former defense minister Ehud Barak alleges he had to convince Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to release Gilad Shalit.
"Barak's pathetic. His attempts to return to the public stage cross every border - defaming the prime minister, rewriting events to glorify himself, unraveling the norms of national responsibility and damaging the vital interests of the State of Israel," the Likud party said in a statement.
