The United States claims that 21 million people in Yemen are now in dire need of humanitarian assistance. The new crisis comes after the Saudi-led coalition attacked the port city of Hodeida.
White House spokesperson Alistair Baskey added that Hodeida is a necessary route for bringing in food, medicine, and fuel. He called on all sides to allow aid to enter freely.
Yemen has been stuck in a brutal civil war since March, in which a coalition of Arab countries has been carrying out airstrikes against Iran-backed Houthi jihadists.
