A former Jerusalem Municipality employee sent Mayor Nir Barkat 1550 shekels ($400 US) along with a letter explaining that he mistakenly took the money from an official account.
According to the letter, the employee accidentally approved of a double payment. After he discovered the error, he felt too embarrassed to tell his boss and hid the money.
The act occurred decades ago, before Israel had even adopted the shekel.
