US and Germany have announced that they will remove their Patriot missile batteries from southern Turkey. The decision came after the two countries reassessed the threat posed by Syria.
The US Patriot units will return to the United States for upgrades, while Germany will shut down its Patriot program.
The US, Germany, and the Netherlands deployed Patriot units to Turkey in 2013, after the latter country requested that its NATO partners help prevent the Syrian civil war from spilling over. Holland's units were replaced by Spanish ones earlier this year.
