Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani announced his resignation yesterday (Tuesday), but a government spokesperson claims that he is still in power.
"The prime minister has not resigned officially. He said during the television interview that he would resign if the street demands it," Hatem al-Arabi told Reuters. “A resignation needs to be handed in writing to the House of Representatives, which would accept or reject it
Al-Thani's announcement came as a surprise to viewers, particularly as it occurred only hours after peace talks were resumed.
Libya has been stuck in a civil war since dictator Muammar Gaddafi was ousted from power in 2011.
