The United Nations envoy to the Central African Republic, Babacar Gaye, has resigned due to allegations that UN peacekeepers sexually abused the very people they were charged with protecting.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that he asked Gaye to submit his registration, one day after Amnesty International claimed a peacekeeper raped a 12-year-old girl.
The accusations first arose months ago, though the UN denies that it covered up any claims.
