Iraq's parliament has unanimously voted in favor of reforms to fight corruption and improve sectarian relations.

According to the reforms, political appointments will no longer be based on ethnicity or quotas, and the positions of vice-president and deputy prime minister will be shut down.

Following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, Iraq's government was designed to give representation to major groups. As a result, the country has three vice-presidents (two Shi'as and one Sunni) and three deputy prime ministers (one Shi'a, one Sunni, and one Kurd).
