The son of former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has entered prison to begin his 10 year sentence. He was found guilty of financial and security crimes, though he claims that the conviction was a political move.
Mahdi Hashemi's trial was conducted behind closed doors. In addition to time in prison, he was ordered to pay an undisclosed sum of money and was permanently barred from holding public office.
