Houston authorities responding to an emergency call encountered a man holed up with eight dead bodies. Five of the bodies belonged to children.
It is not known who made the phone call, but a Sheriff's Office spokesperson said that "Information was obtained that a male was in the home and had a warrant for an aggravated assault on a family member."
Deputies saw a child's body through a window and attempted to enter the house, but the suspect opened fire. The authorities were forced to withdraw until a high-risk unit was able to arrive and arrest the man.
Police are investigating the identities of the victims.
