Egyptian security officials reported this morning (Monday) that Hamas terror operatives had been planning to carry out terror attacks in the Sinai Peninsula over New Year's Eve in order to bring "anarchy into the area", Yediot Ahronot reported, citing the Al-Youm Al-Sabi newspaper.

The report comes following last Friday's shooting incident where a Palestinian Arab was shot by Egyptian security forces near the Gaza border. According to the Arab periodical, the Palestinian who was killed had been a Hamas operative attempting to sneak across the border with three others, also deemed to be members of Hamas. Following the shooting, the three remaining operatives surrendered to authorities.
