US Troops Returning from Liberia Put in Isolation as Precautionary Measure

Approximately a dozen US soldiers finishing a mission in Liberia, including the Commander of the US Army in Africa, Maj.-Gen. Darryl Williams, have been placed in isolation at a base in Vicenza, Italy this past  weekend as precautionary measure due to Ebola concerns, according to a Pentagon statement released on Monday, cited in USA Today.

US Army Colonel Steven Warren stated that none of the soldiers have exhibited any symptoms whatsoever. He went on to explain that these troops were part of “Operation United Assistance”, and were sent to Liberia to help fight the Ebola virus outbreak.

The soldiers will be held for 21 days – the incubation period for the Ebola virus.  Col. Warren iterated that their isolation was not required per Pentagon guidelines.
