Several men suspected of spying in the southern province of Bushehr have been arrested by the Iranian security services, reports Reuters, citing the semi-official Fars news agency. Bushehr is where Iran’s first nuclear power plant is situated.
Iran has claimed foreign plots to sabotage its nuclear program on several occasions, a program they say is to be used solely for the production electricity and providing of medical treatment. The world powers have expressed apprehension that the program will be used to bring the Iranians nuclear weapons capabilities, and are attempting to rein them in by reaching an agreement through negotiations by the November 24th deadline.
"Thanks to the vigilance of Intelligence Ministry forces who monitor the moves of the foreign intelligence services, some agents who intended to carry out surveillance and intelligence gathering for foreigners have been arrested," Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi Alawi told Fars, without elaborating.
