The new Jewish Museum which opened up in Warsaw, Poland less than a month ago, has received an unconventional request when a woman told them she had segments of tombstones that had been stolen from the Lodz Jewish cemetery which she wished to turn over to them.
The woman revealed that around 10 years ago, in an effort to trace her family's origins, she had visited the town of Ozorków, near Lodz, and had removed about 20 pieces of headstones from the destroyed cemetery as souvenirs of her family's roots, and put them in her basement in the Zoliborz area of Warsaw.
