A short while ago (Monday), employees at the Haifa seaport walked out in a wildcat general strike. The Employees Committee announced, "Following a stormy meeting this morning, the employees decided upon an immediate walkout. This comes following previous claims that the negotiations between the Histadrut (national labor federation) and government bodies dealing with their employment and financial futures are being conducted 'behind closed doors.'"

The committee also commented that employees are outraged by the State's promotion of the construction of new, privately-owned ports, yet they are prevented from conducting negotiations that deal with their own future employment and the development of already existing ports.

Entry to the port has been jammed up, as trucks are not being allowed entry to unload, reports Walla!.
