Iran has threatened that it will attack the “Islamic State” (ISIS) inside of Iraq should they approach their border, according to comments the commander of Iran’s ground forces, General Ahmad Reza Pourdestana in comments he made today (Shabbat).
“Should the terrorist group (ISIS) come near our borders, we will attack deep into Iraqi territory,” the official Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted Pourdestana as saying. Iran has provided support to both the Iraqi government and to Iraqi Kurdish forces fighting the IS with both weapons and military advisers.
Iran has voiced support for the US airstrikes against the terror organization in Iraq, but has remained critical of those taking place in Syria, reported Kol Yisrael (Israel Radio).
