A young Jewish couple this week held their wedding open to the eyes of thousands of passers-by in one of the most public places in Berlin (Germany) - Potsdamer Platz.
Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel, Berlin's Chief Rabbi, who officiated over the nuptials commented, "Our answer to anti-Semitism should be an increase in Jewish pride, open expression of our Jewishness, and a deepening of the ties with our magnificent traditions."
Igor and Elena, who immigrated to Germany from Russia, have in the last years become increasingly involved in the Jewish community, and recently decided they wanted to marry with a fully orthodox religious ceremony. Rabbit Teichtel convinced the couple to have the wedding under the skies, out in the open rather than in a hotel, as a form of "protest" against the growing open incidents of anti-Semitism, which had increased dramatically during Operation Protective Edge.
