Israeli Cows Tops in Per Capita Milk Production

The average Israeli cow produces 11,780 liters (3,141 gallons) of milk in 2013, making it the most productive in the world, according to figures released on Monday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, ahead of Wednesday's Shavu'ot holiday, which is associated with the consumption of dairy products. A total of about 1.435 billion liters/382.667 million gallons was produced in Israel, up two percent from 2012.

Dairy represented the fourth highest food group consumed in Israel, with 286 shekels ($82) representing 15.2 percent of the monthly food budget. The price of milk itself went up 5.9 percent during the course of the year.
