Hundreds Celebrate Purim with Fugitive Rabbi in Africa

Hundreds of followers of Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who left Israel against a backdrop of allegations of sexual offenses, marked Sunday's Purim holiday with him in Zimbabwe. The Breslov follower lived in Morocco but was banished by royal decree after the king read of the allegations in Israel.

Rabbi Berland asked his followers from the beginning not to come, out of concern that all the tumult might adversely affect the Shuvu Banim sect's leader's stay in the southern African nation, but that did not stop them from paying as much as $1,500 for the plane fare.
