Roi Lachmanovich, former spokesman of the Shas party, predicted on Sunday that there will never be an appointed heir to the party’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
"Even if the rabbi were to name someone specific to bear the burden, he would never truly be a successor to the rabbi. There is not really a successor to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef,” Lachmanovich told Arutz Sheva, adding that Rabbi Yosef’s leadership is unique in that it is characterized by his halakhic greatness combined with his ability to speak to the masses. “I do not see another rabbi with such strengths. No one can succeed him. Maybe they’ll name someone, but this would be only a technical successor,” he said.
