Hebrew Wikipedia celebrated 10 years of existence on Tuesday. It's first entry was on mathematics. Wikipedia officials staff said, "on July 8, 2003, the Wikimedia Foundation, at the request of a number of volunteers from Israel, sought to open a Hebrew version. Twenty-four hours later, on July 9, 2003, at 1:00pm, the first entry "mathematics" by Rotem Dan was written." Wikipedia is the online internet encyclopedia that any user can edit.
Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia stated, "I congratulate the Wikipedia on this milestone. I thank all the writers of Hebrew Wikipedia who contributed their vast knowledge."
Itzik Edri, Chairman of Wikimedia Israel said "It's hard to remember the website 10 years ago when content was generally low. When you were looking for something, you would need to switch to the English version." He praised the huge amount of articles that now exist contributed by volunteers.
