Member of Knesset Moti Yogev (Jewish Home) blasted the statements of General Nitzan Alon, head of Central Command on Wednesday. General Alon on Wednesday called for Israel to resume negotiations with the Palestinian Authority as suggested by United States Secretary of State John Kerry. He warned that "if recent attempts of Secretary John Kerry" were to fail then "Israel can imminently expect the security situation to escalate into more violence."
MK Yogev said the remarks were unbecoming of a military official. "Political statements in relation to negotiations, exceed and transcend the boundaries of a senior commander in the IDF," said MK Yogev. "The role of the central command is to prevent the risk of various threats and terrorism and to prepare the military power to fulfill any task under all conditions and to strive for victory," he stated. MK Yogev added rhetorically that if he wished to make such statements then the general could "please take off your uniform, and look for a job in Israel's foreign service or even in Israeli politics."
MK Yogev's party is opposed to negotiations that would result in the territorial compromise of strategic lands historical connected to eth Jewish people.
