Grants for Buying Home in Negev and Galilee May Be Cut

Minister for the Development of the Negev and Galilee Silvan Shalom sent a letter on Tuesday to Minister of Finance Yair Lapid asking him to preserve the grants for individuals purchasing homes in the Negev and the Galilee.

In a letter Minister Shalom wrote, "at a time when the Israeli government is fighting the soaring housing prices and cost of living, it is the duty of the government to encourage moving outside the boundaries of Tel Aviv area and to start thinking about options in the Negev and Galilee. Accommodations are reasonably priced and there is a cheaper cost of living," he stated. The Northern Galilee and the southern Negev regions are much less populated in comparison to the Tel Aviv coastal region and greater Jerusalem area.
