President Barack Obama of the United States expressed doubt, Monday evening, that the U.S. would declare a no-fly zone for portions of Syria to aid opponents of President Bashar Al-Assad. Interviewed by the Public Broadcasting Service, he called it a slippery slope that could lead to increasing commitments.
President Obama said the elections in Iran showed that the Iranian people wanted to go in a new direction. He stressed that the Tehran government has to show that it was not continuing plans to obtain nuclear weapons if it wants economic sanctions lifted.
