On Sunday, the Knesset Committee for Foreign Workers visited the halfway house facility in the Negev meant to house illegal aliens who have infiltrated into the country. The majority of infiltrators are from Eritrea and a lesser number are from Sudan and the newly independent country of South Sudan.
The committee members visited the living quarters, clinic, kindergarten, and dining room. The facility commander, Colonel Albert Abuchatzeira, said that the facility is ready for 3,000 people. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 people housed there. Israeli officials have established an adapted curriculum for school age children of illegal aliens with social games and classes. The facility employs a family doctor, dentist, paramedic, and social workers.
