President Shim'on Peres said, Sunday morning, that the experts were surprised by the victory of Hassan Rowhani in the Iranian presidential elections, despite his being one of the three serious candidates. He said the real loser was Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who, according to Peres, was sure the people would vote his way although the results showed otherwise.
Peres added, "We will only be able to judge Rowhani in the future on the basis of his deeds. But we know that he is thought to be the most moderate candidate on the list and declared, in the past, that he wouldn't let the [country's] extremist policies continue." He stressed that the high voter turnout and percentage of support for Rowhani backed that statement.
