Fine and Prison for Counterfeit Kashrut Certificate

The Rechovot Magistrates Court sentenced a man on Thursday to 12 months in prison with an additional nine months hanging over his head for three years after he gets out and fined him 3,000 shekels for issuing kashrut certificates to four businesses in the city even though he was not authorized to do so.

The establishments decided not to take certificates from the rabbinate. The judge stressed that there was potential for deception, even though it was not claimed or proven that a specific individual was misled by the counterfeit documents.
