Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met, Sunday, with 89-year-old Simcha Rotem (Kazhik), the last survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Rotem described his efforts during the fighting and events to mark the 70th anniversary of the revolt, from which he just returned.
Netanyahu told Kazhik, "We are a people that stands out because of its talents, but ultimately these talents were not suited to the strength that was demanded of us to survive the horrors of the Holocaust." He added, "You are a national hero and an international hero. Your story stands on its own. The Minister of Education told me that during the events to mark [the anniversary of] the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, all the public stood up and applauded you for five minutes. They should have done so longer. You're simply a hero."
