Israelis Run for French Parliament Expatriate Seat

Israelis Valérie Hoffenberg and Meyer Habib are involved in a runoff election, scheduled for Sunday, for a seat in the French parliament representing more than 144,000 French citizens living in Israel (including the Palestinian Authority), Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, San Marino, Turkey and the Vatican. More than half of the voters live in Israel.

Hoffenberg, a former president of the American Jewish Committee in France, won the overall vote in the first round while Habib, deputy leader of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions, had the most votes in Israel. The elections were dictated by the disqualification of Daphna Poznanski-Benhamou, due to irregularities in the funding of her victory in the 2012 elections.
