IAEA Chief: No Progress in Contacts with Iran

Director Yukiya Amano of the International Atomic Energy Agency gave a pessimistic appraisal, Monday, regarding contact with Iran on its nuclear development program. Speaking at a meeting of the IAEA's Board of Governors, he also expressed concern that the Islamic Republic made efforts to eliminate all traces of nuclear activity at the Parchin military facility. Amano was sharply critical of the Tehran government in reporting the lack of progress. He added that the continued construction of a research reactor and the enrichment of uranium constitute a clear violation of a decision by the United Nations Security Council.
