The Knesset Finance Committee held a farewell meeting, Monday, for outgoing Governor Stanley Fischer of the Bank of Israel. During the course of the meeting, Member of Knesset Reuven Rivlin (Likud) said, "You demonstrated leadership and the ability to take the public's mood into consideration as well as the ability to make hard decisions. You did not act as a commissioner or arm of the government but as a governor who represents the public."
The former speaker added, "You stood up against entities whose political - or populist - need was to bring the economy down to their politics and ability, thanks to your professionalism and expertise, especially the public's trust in you, even those who felt hurt by the policy which you led. You performed wonderful service. I hope you take a vacation and come back. There are many tasks that you are capable of filling."
