The Lebanese army and police are investigating an assassination attempt on Sheikh Maher Hammoud, Monday morning, in the southern port city of Sidon, according to Lebanon's The Daily Star. Sheikh Hammoud supports the Hizbullah terror group and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
The sheikh told the newspaper that shots were fired him and his bodyguards from a passing car around 4:00 a.m. He said the bodyguards returned fire, damaging the car. While the car was reported stolen, its owner was taken in for questioning. Kalashnikov AK-47 casings were found in the car, matching bullets that hit the building in which Sheikh Hammoud took cover and nearby stores.
