6 Million Shekels Invested in Fighting Locusts

Israel continues to use aerial and ground spraying against swarms of locusts in the area next to the Egyptian border, which the insects continue to cross in both directions. Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir said, Thursday, that the magnitude of the 80-day-old invasion was unprecedented.

Shamir added, "The extent of future damages to agriculture is still unclear, but the costs of spraying carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture since the beginning of the locust attack has been estimated at six million shekels."
